Taking a Little Break

This mama is currently "taking a break"....This is one phrase I am learning not to feel guilt over, and believe me, I'm the champion of feeling guilty. But why do we so easily feel guilt over things that are not worth feeling guilty over? Why is it that our desire to attain the status of "perfect, godly mother" includes things not covered by God's Word. Is rest a bad thing? Most definitely not! Look at the way God emphasized the need for rest in Genesis and then in all the laws in Exodus and Leviticus. God expects us to rest.

I find that I often use these equations in my head. 

Tired + Rest = Laziness. 

Tired + Work yourself to the bone = perfect mother. 

Haha! Am I the only one that fights this thinking? Well, considering we have an example in the Bible (see Mary and Martha) I'm pretty sure this type of twisted thinking has been going on for a while. It's something I'm committing to the Lord and actively working to change with accountability from my husband (he's such a patient soul). Maybe we should begin looking at being a good and godly mother by actually taking God's plan into account without adding our own actions to it. Why mess with God's perfection?

Now that we've covered that little subject floating in my head let's get to why we are so tired. Plain and simple--4 kids with bad colds and bronchitis means very little sleep for Daddy and Mommy. I think we may be on the upward swing, but you never know! Adelynn is 6 1/2 months old and this is her first cold. She's handling it like a champ, but I do feel for her. Speaking of Addy Cakes (pet name) being 6 1/2 months old, I need to update everyone on our big, changing year of 2012. It's been a while. But that's for another post.

I had a slight dilemma as to what to do with four sick children this week. The two youngest just want to be held and read to. Of course, that's not to much of a problem. But for the older two and occassionally the third they are just plan bored. So what have we done? Well, today they are using masking tape to make a road for their cars and duplos to build a city. Yesterday we played playdough. The day before that we made moondough (thank you Pinterest!). And the day before that we learned how to sketch some animals. Later on today, I'm going to tape some large coloring sheets together to make one big coloring mat they can work on for a couple of days. It's been nice to have them all home and playing together, but I am ready to be out of the danger zone of sickness and back to themselves.
